Silver Springs Xcountry
Saturday, December 12, 2015. It was an amazing day for a race. The sun was shining, the birds were singing (or were they??), the temperature was perfect and the trails were better than perfect.
The Silver Springs race was another nicely organized cross-country run, thanks to Marissa and her team of awesome volunteers. There was a good showing of up-and-coming runners in the kids’ race – all of them taking home a winners medal and a candy cane. The big kids were up next, taking on the ~4k and ~8k distances. The first gnarly downhill caused panic for some runners, then it was just trying to keep the pace over the next few ups and downs. The section of side-slope through the knee-high bushes was an interesting twist. Extra shoe traction was helpful in getting through this area or one could end up going for a nice little slide. Another steep climb (just to ensure your heart was still beating) and on to the finish where we were met with our final uphill challenge.
The course had all the necessary ingredients to be called a true cross-country event. Thanks Marissa! You out-did yourself!
