Original event was cancelled in its inaugural year after devastating floods in Southern Alberta
Banff National Park, Alberta – (November 26, 2013) –Today, organizers announced the date for the inaugural Banff Marathon and Half Marathon to be held in Banff National Park. After the 2013 race was cancelled due to the floods which displaced over 100,000 Albertans, the marathon and half marathon will be back on June 22, 2014 for a second try at hosting the new event.
The Banff Marathon and Half Marathon will offer one of the world’s most incredible and beautiful running experiences, all in Canada’s first national park. Participants will complete an adventure through a series of incredible natural, wildlife, and historical stages along the park’s Bow Valley Parkway and Legacy Trail to a finish of cheering crowds in downtown Banff. Each stage will represent a different chapter of the valley’s story. The family-friendly event will have something for everyone including a sport and lifestyle expo, kids’ activities and more.
“The New York marathon came back from Super-Storm Sandy this year, the Boston Marathon will come back strong from the horrific events of 2013, and soon, the Banff Marathon will also make its comeback from the extreme flooding which devastated Southern Alberta,” said Marathon Director Paul Regensburg, “This will be a very special race with the route weaving through mountain valleys on closed roads – it will be worth the wait.”
One of the world's most beautiful and unique destinations has been given the opportunity to host the most famous running event, the marathon. The Banff Marathon will offer runners of all abilities the chance to participate in this truly special event.
