Pat and Marg were familiar faces in the Calgary running crowd in the 1980s and 1990s. With over 40 full marathons and countless other road races under her belt, Marg was a long time supporter of womens’ running, providing encouragement and inspiration to countless women over the years.
A founding member of the Roadrunners, she served on the board for two years and organized the many of the Roadrunner Womens Teams for Jasper-Banff and K-100 from the mid ‘80s to early ‘90s. Those who have arrived on the running scene more recently may not be aware that Marg played a large role in bringing the Bonne Belle 10K for Women race to Calgary in 1979, and in guiding that race as it transitioned to the Brooks 10K for Women, the forerunner of what is now the Calgary Women’s Run, supported by the Roadrunner Club.
Marg was also Calgary Marathon’s first female Race Director in the ’80s and helped taking Calgary Marathon to the next level during her tenure; she is deservingly one of the event’s Hall of Fame inductees.
Rest in peace Marg, you will be missed.
