Volunteers wanted for Calgary Marathon and Mother’s Day Run
From Jill Petkau, Volunteer Program Manager for Run Calgary and the Calgary Marathon
We are in critical need of Course Marshals for both the 2023 Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run, Walk & Wheel race event on Sunday May 14th AND the 2023 Servus Calgary Marathon race event on Sunday May 28th.
Course Marshals are needed along the race course to keep race participants safe and help to create an energy-filled and motivational experience for runners by controlling traffic, cheering loudly, and actively supporting these athletes in achieving their finish line goals. I am hoping that Calgary Road Runners members, along with their family members and friends, will be able to volunteer as Course Marshals.
Here are the volunteer registration links:

- 2023 Servus Calgary Marathon volunteer registration (link)
We have divided up the Course Marshals into EXPERIENCED and NON-Experienced Course Marshals, mainly to avoid having brand new volunteers sign up for an experienced Course Marshal location that needs them to be strongly confident to manage a key location on course that will deal with high vehicle traffic volume, high runner volume, and/or important markers such as split points for different race distances or turn-around points. If any of Calgary Road Runners members are experienced runners who would be appropriate for an Experienced Course Marshal position but have not had necessarily done the role before, please have them call me (403-630-9716) or email me at volunteer@calgarymarathon.com to discuss placing them at an Experienced Course Marshal location (we are particularly short on experienced course marshals this year so far).
If you have questions, please reach out to me by phone at 403-630-9716. I hope to get as many Calgary Road Runners members involved as Course Marshals as possible.
Thank you for your time!
