CRR Summer Events Series – The Age Graded Races (August)
August 1, 2020 @ 12:00 am - August 31, 2020 @ 11:30 pm
And just like that, we are on the finish stretch; August is the last month of the CRR Summer Series Events.
The final Age Graded Races series will reveal if your training through the summer has been successful, will give you a chance to win awesome prizes, and perhaps even be crowned as the CRR Athlete of the COVID Summer!
The events are free, open to all runners (not only CRR members), and the Club offers a number of randomly drawn prizes each month. We certainly appreciate our members very much, so they will receive twice as many ballots in the draws. You can be a Club member too!
Each summer month CRR will sponsor two events:
- Streaks of at least one mile a day, and
- Age-graded “races” of various distances.
The Age-Graded Race – The deal is very much the same as in the June Age Graded Races, only you have one more day to run in August. Submit it to CRR’s “Virtual Race Director (VRD)” on this ⇒ Google Form ⇐ . A smart and fair algorithm will apply the age-graded factor to your time, and will keep the leaderboard updated through each month. We ask you to submit a Garmin/Strava etc. link along with your result, to ensure good sportsmanship in this competitive category.
Results for three distances will be accepted: 5 km, 10 km, and 10 mile. Please do not submit treadmill run results; treadmills are for winter.
The leaderboards are cool and inspiring (and now that we’ve seen some great interest from the athletes, we will have a “CRR Athlete of the COVID Summer” award for the highest age graded male and female runners), but you don’t have to race super hard to be a hero. With a “race” result entry you will get a chance to win some cool draw prizes. You can even walk the distance and still be in the game. Enter all three distances in one month, and triple your odds of winning. Same rules apply for the draw prizes as in the Streak category.
We will be using this WMA Road Age Grading Calculator 2015. Scroll down to see LIVE RESULTS.
CRR Athlete of the COVID Summer
How well can you perform in a non-race? How consistent has your training been? How versatile in various distances are you? Here comes the Award, presented to the best male and female Virtual Racers. The selection is objective – the average of the 5 highest age graded percent results (out of 9 possible entries through the 3 months: 5K, 10k, and 10Mile each month). Each of the three distances must be included at least once in the 5 best results.
Follow an example below, for a racer named Joe. Joe’s a regional class runner (meaning his age scores are in the 70% range). He’s more like a 10K racer, so his scores are higher in that distance. His 5 best “percent” scores are highlighted, and all three distances are represented. Joe’s average of the “Best Five” is 72.086%.
In a tiebreaker, the older athlete has the advantage, due to the weight of extra years on their shoulders.
June | July | August | |
5 km | 20:00 (70.98%) | 20:45 (68.41%) | Did not “race” |
10 km | 40:37 (72.95%) | 40:32 (73.1%) | 40:00 (74.07%) |
10 mile | Did not “race” | 1:11:30 (69.33%) | 1:13:45 (67.22%) |
